Frequently Asked Questions

How does upside-down text work?
Each character is replaced with its Unicode lookalike that appears flipped. For example, 'a' becomes 'ɐ' (U+0250), 'b' becomes 'q', 'h' becomes 'ɥ' (U+0265). The character order is also reversed so the text reads right-to-left when flipped. Not all characters have upside-down equivalents.
Can all characters be flipped?
No. Only letters and some punctuation have upside-down Unicode equivalents. Digits and special characters may remain unchanged or use approximate lookalikes. Numbers 0–9 all have approximate flipped equivalents.
Does upside-down text work in all apps?
It works wherever Unicode text is rendered (social media, messaging apps, email, word processors). It relies on the rendering engine displaying the specific Unicode characters used, which may look different across fonts. Most modern platforms support these characters.
