What information does this tool show?
This tool shows your browser's locally-visible IP address. In most cases this is a private LAN address (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x) assigned by your router, not your public internet IP. To see your public IP, a server-side lookup is required.
What is the difference between a public and private IP address?
A public IP is assigned by your ISP and is visible to the internet. A private IP is assigned by your router within your local network (192.168.0.0/16, 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12). Multiple devices share one public IP via NAT (Network Address Translation).
Why does my IP address change?
Most ISPs assign dynamic IPs that change periodically or when your router reconnects. A static IP is fixed and costs extra. On mobile networks, IP changes happen frequently. Within a local network, DHCP leases also expire and may assign different private IPs.
